Pakistan’s central bank is SBP. The State Bank of Pakistan’s constitution, as originally enacted in 1948, was not fundamentally altered until January 1, 1974, when the bank was nationalized and its scope of work significantly expanded.
The State Bank of Pakistan Act of 1956, as amended, serves as the foundation for its current operations. It has its headquarters in Karachi, Pakistan’s financial capital. SBP Banking Services Corporation (SBP-BSC), the operational arm of the central bank, is the bank’s wholly owned subsidiary. It has locations in 16 cities across Pakistan, including the capital Islamabad and four provincial capitals.
